Short answer: a ballet dancewear set is a matching leotard and skirt, and sometimes extras such as a belt, a bow or chest pads, sold together in one size run. A set saves time, matches the colors and often costs less than buying each piece. Buy separate pieces if your school asks for a specific style or color.
What is usually in a ballet set?
| Piece | Often included? |
|---|---|
| Leotard | Yes |
| Skirt (chiffon or tutu) | Often |
| Waist ribbon or belt | Sometimes |
| Bow or hair accessory | Sometimes |
| Chest pads | Sometimes, in teen and adult sets |
| Tights and shoes | Rarely; bought separately |
What sets do we offer?
- Short-sleeve leotard and chiffon skirt set: Pale Pink, Lavender and Light Blue, sizes 110 to 170. You can also buy the leotard or the skirt on its own.
- Orange leotard and white tutu set: a first-stage set for young dancers. The tutu skirt is one size, for dancers about 100 to 130 cm tall.
- Black camisole leotard set: a leotard, a black waist ribbon, a black bow and a pair of removable chest pads, in sizes S to XXL.
Is a set better than separate pieces?
- A set is better for a first outfit, a gift, or when you want the colors to match without guessing.
- Separate pieces are better when the school names the exact leotard, when a child is in two different sizes top and bottom, or when you want to replace one piece.
How do I choose the size for a set?
- Choose by height first. Check the size chart on the product page.
- If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.
- Check the note on the skirt. Some skirts have a fixed size range.
Our leotard size chart explains how sizes work.
What else do I need with a set?
Ballet tights and soft ballet shoes, and a neat bun. Our guide to a girl’s first ballet class lists everything, and our guide to a dance uniform explains why schools ask for matching clothes.
How do I care for a set?
- Wash on a gentle cycle in cool water, and air dry.
- Keep the skirt away from velcro and rough zips, which snag chiffon.
- Hang the skirt up after class so it does not crease.
